Caras Park Sound Shell - Choral Fest 2016


 2016 Festival Kick-Off Concert at “Out To Lunch”

Wednesday: 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Caras Park

“Out to Lunch” is a program of the Missoula Downtown Association. Seating is limited at this popular kick-off concert, so arrive early or bring blankets or lawn chairs. Food and beverages are available at various restaurant vendors under the tent.  This is a free event.

PARKING

In addition to metered street parking, four public parking facilities are located within two blocks north and east of Caras Park:  Central Park Structure at 128 W. Main Street offers hourly parking; Bank Street Structure at 115 Bank Street offers pay-by-license-plate parking on the top level; Park Place Structure at 201 E Front Street offers hourly parking, and the New Park lot, located on Caras Drive by the riverfront, offers hourly pay-by-license-plate parking. The free “Park and Ride” Out to Lunch Shuttle is also available. Simply board the bus at the Lewis & Clark Transfer Center and Dornblaser Park & Ride, or along Higgins Avenue before Caras Park. The first bus departs the Transfer Center at 10:45 am and picks up passengers every 20 minutes. Southgate Mall Preview Concert

Wednesday, 2:30 pm— 4:00 pm

Gather at the JC Penney Court for performances by a selection of participating choirs.  This is a free event.

Wednesday, 6:30 pm— 9:00 pm

Bonner Park

Missoula City Band will start this concert and then Festival Youth Choirs will follow.  Please bring lawn chairs to this concert, and enjoy an evening of music in a beautiful park setting.  This is a free event.

The seminar topic is “Choral Music From Around the World”.  Each participating conductor will discuss choral music that is native or original or unique to their country or culture.  This is a free event.

PARKING

University of Montana Office of Public Safety has graciously offered parking for Festival attendees in Parking Lot P during business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)!  In this lot ONLY Festival attendees will not be required to purchase parking passes or permits when attending Festival events during the day.  Please be aware that all other parking on campus will require a parking pass or permit.  PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN RESERVED SPOTS OR QUICK STOPS.  Parking Lot P is between 5th and 6th Avenues by the Adams Center.  During the evening concerts, a parking permit or pass in not required anywhere on campus.  However, always heed special signs marking disabled parking and quick stops.  Note that cars parked illegally are subject to fines or towing.

New to this Festival – International Choral Festival brings you organic performing art performances in the heart of our community.  Choirs will perform two to three times in various downtown locations such as the library, Dana Gallery, and Plonk.  Choirs will perform for 15 minutes at each location (admission button required).

The Finale concert will feature the pageantry of the “Parade of Nations” and brief performances by each Festival Choir. The concert will conclude with the Massed Festival Chorus, under the direction of David Heidel and Dean Peterson (admission button required).
