Choral Music From Around the World

“Beautiful Choral Music from Taiwan”
Presenter: Dr Thomas Holm, professor, Northwestern College
The outstanding Formosa Singers of Taiwan will be performing examples from their repertoire, along with score slides and explanations of features that make this music unique and so expressive. Along with Formosa Singers, this session will be led by Dr. Thomas Holm (Northwestern College), who has worked frequently with the Formosa Singers and other Taiwanese choirs in performing many of these works.

“Communing with fleeting perfection”
Presenter: Jacek Sykulski, conductor, Poznań Boys’ Choir
This presentation will deal with working with a boy’s choir, changing voices in boys, and the uniqueness of the boy’s voice. Also, he will describe what competencies a conductor working with such a choir should have and what it is like to work with a “live” choir.

“My Rehearsals are Not Only About Singing”
Presenter: Valerija Skapienė, conductor, Children’s Choir Ugnele
In this presentation, the artistic director of Ugnele Music School from Vilnius, Lithuania, will talk about emotional aspects of choir and psychological tools she uses in choral rehearsals.

“An Approach to Costa Rican Calypso “
Presenter: Josué Ramírez, associate conductor, Coro Intermezzo
Explore the music of the Costa Rican Caribbean Coast and include the music of Central America for your next choral program with totally new choral arrangements for choir.

Parade of Nations Finale Concert | Dennison Theater
The Finale concert will feature the pageantry of the “Parade of Nations,” a choral welcome by the Missoula Mendelssohn Club under the direction of Dean Peterson, and a brief performance by each choir. It will conclude with a performance by the  International Combined Festival Choir, open seating – doors open at 6:00 pm.
