All the singers of the Bündner Jugendchor grew up in Graubünden. Every August the young people aged 16-28 come together for a rehearsal week to learn new songs. These are sung in various events starting with 3-4 concerts in August and September. Practicing like this is possible because most of the singers are students so they are on summer vacation during training week.
Even though the choir was only founded in 2004, there have been many interesting moments in exchange with other choirs at international festivals and competitions, including the “Europa cantat” in Utrecht, Netherlands in 2008; the 2010 “European Youth Choir Festival”, in Basel, Switzerland, and the 2011 “International Choir Competition” in Bad Ischl, Austria, where the choir won first place in the category of youth choirs, and a golden diploma singing folk songs.
The choir has been conducted by Martin Zimmerman since its formation. Introducing the young singers with a broad range of styles of all time periods is important to him and works out well for the young people. Two CD’s have been recorded since the choir was founded.
