Founded in Costa Rica in 1994, El Café Chorale is made up of a group of students and professionals who are united by their love for choral singing. While the chorale was created for the purpose of investigating and disseminating a broad international repertoire of choral literature, ranging from Renaissance to Contemporary compositions, its main focus and intent is to bring Latin American folk music and rhythms to the international stage using authentic traditional instruments and more importantly, to reacquaint local audiences with their own musical traditions.
The group has received awards at various international invitational festivals, as well as national recognitions for its overall excellence, including Costa Rica’s National Music Award on three different occasions (1999, 2003 and 2007). It has also participated in workshops at the ACDA Convention in Los Angeles in 2000 and in several international choral competitions in Austria, Belgium, England, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland.
